I am sure during childhood and ahem (coughs)….even now we have all played the game Connect Four. The purpose of the game? Simple – to connect four of the same coloured discs together before your opponent does. This can be done vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The game may seem simple but your opponent is always trying to figure out your next move. You have to be quick and strategic in order to win the game. This relates to marketing. Not the being vertical, horizontal and diagonal part but being strategic.
In marketing you have to have a strong supply and distribution channel. That channel represents the four same coloured disks in Connect Four. The ‘disks’ can be made of suppliers, manufacturers, intermediaries and of course customers. In order to make the make the full ‘connection’ with each you have to be strategic in your approach and always think of the end game -THE CUSTOMER. How do you do this? One word – COMMUNICATION.
Within the supply and distribution channel, it is vital to make sure everyone is on the same page. Having quarterly meetings with members of that channel would ensure that everyone has the same objectives in distributing and supplying products or services in a timely and efficient manner to the customer. This would result in profit for the organisation and everyone within the distribution channel. But ultimately the ‘game’ would be won as the last connection would be the customer.
By having a strong connection already in place it is a lot harder for your opponent i.e. your competitor (s) to know your what your next move will be.
